Canton Senior Center
The Town of Canton selected Richard Alvord Architects to design, estimate and coordinate a new senior center in an existing town property, the 6,000 square foot former Knights of Columbus building. The existing building was originally built in 1950 with 2 side additions done with volunteer labor and materials over several years.
All building systems needed to be removed and replaced with contemporary energy efficient materials including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, windows, energy code compliant insulation and building ventilation systems and all new interior finishes and the exterior wall system.
We provided a design within the existing 6,000 SF footprint and provided a new entrance canopy. The new facility is fully handicap accessible. The user enters the building greeted by the living room setting of the 750 SF Fireside Room. Other building spaces include: a 2,500 SF multipurpose room for lunches, dinners and special programs with a folding partition to divide off 800 SF for exercise classes, a full service commercial kitchen, game room with pool and table games, private/personal meeting space, nearly new exchange room, administrative offices and various storage and utility rooms.
We installed Exterior Insulation and Finishing System over the existing concrete block exterior to provide a cottage like aesthetic to the building facades with a putty colored stucco finish.
The construction bid was $50,000 under the budget of $1.5 Million.
