Canton Parks and Recreation Department/Williams Estate
For the Town of Canton, Richard Alvord Architects prepared a feasibility report for the Williams Estate, a historic property loved by the Canton community and used by the town for public meetings and office space. Along with an extensive existing conditions survey with many detailed drawings, we presented a series of proposed schemes based on our meetings with the Canton community. These sketches and associated detailed cost estimates helped the Canton community come to a confident decision on opportunities and challenges to proceed.
As a result of the study’s findings and the committee’s favorable view of our work, we were hired to provide full Construction Documents and Construction Administration for the remainder of the renovation. Construction was completed, except for the teaching kitchen, in the year 2001.
The renovation work included new grading at the entrances to accomodate an at grade accessible entrance, new roofing, new brick pointing, installation of new accessible toilet rooms on the first and second floors, new offices for the Recreation Department, large and small meeting rooms, a youth activity room and a Limited Access, Limited Use elevator.
