3 Kitteridge Court
Pergola
The clear cedar pergola is located adjacent to the walkout finished basement on the south facing rear of the house. The pergola serves as a shade device to provide a comfortable outdoor space for dining and casual seating. It offers privacy under the canopy combined with the wooden screens at two sides. Also working as an arbor to grow cherry tomatoes, cucumbers and wisteria that flourishes during the summer months.
Bathroom
The full bath needed modernization both aesthetically and technically. The existing pipes were beyond expected life cycle, the fixtures offered no conservation standards, the colors were of a bygone time, the lighting and ventilation were inadequate and misdirected, the floor was creaky and there was no insulation in a room where cold is not welcomed. All systems were replaced with new, water conserving fixtures, stronger ventilation and ambient and directed lighting. Other feature include floor to ceiling shallow cabinet for toiletries, a bathtub curtain valance for bath product storage and access, new floor tile and a vertical towel warmer, handy to the tub shower.
Kitchen
When purchased, a list of projects to renovate the house to better quality of life through modernized rooms and systems. The kitchen renovation was completed first. The new layout of the kitchen improved functionality, provided additional storage space with tall cabinets on the interior walls and tucked a standard refrigerator into the tall cabinet space providing appearance of a built-in refrigerator. The existing closet space was reclaimed for jackets and umbrellas, with upper shelving containing a central audio system with speakers throughout the entire house. Natural maple cabinets were chosen to keep the space light and airy. The ceiling was raised to the original 8’-6” height. A multicolored linoleum square tile floor was installed. Absolute black stone countertops were chosen, matching the existing stove and providing a contrast to the other material choices. A custom cherry spice rack runs across the entire wall of the linear organized counter area. Over the sink, a custom light valance was designed and installed. With an eye to efficiency, the previous dining room closet was transformed into a walk through connection for the serving of food and access to place setting and table wear bussing.
